As sustainable living continues to shape modern design, we're excited to introduce our new range featuring timeless Satara pieces upholstered in eco-friendly, recycled fabrics. Thoughtfully curated to complement both style and sustainability, this collection reflects our commitment to a more conscious future.
In the past 60 years, global plastic production has reached 8.3 billion tons, but only 9.5% has been recycled, leaving a massive volume of waste that lingers in the environment for centuries, harming ecosystems and biodiversity. Asia faces significant challenges, with South Asia generating about 334 million tons of mismanaged waste yearly, and up to 15 million tons of plastic entering the Indian Ocean each year. In 2020, the East Asia and Pacific region produced approximately 686 million metric tons of municipal solid waste.
Plastic waste's impact goes beyond environmental damage, underscoring the need for a circular economy to reduce waste and associated harm. Studies show that producing recycled PET fibres cuts CO₂ emissions by 40%-60% compared to virgin polyester. The recycled plastic fabrics featured on a selection of our products currently incorporate an average of 400 kg of plastic per 1000 meters produced.
This selection of fabrics, meets the highest standards for environmental and safety regulations, including REACH, the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List, and Oeko-Tex Standard 100. We guarantee it's free from harmful substances, making it safe for the environment, children, and pets. It's a healthy, sustainable solution for both commercial and residential use.
The collected plastic is cleaned & resized into tiny particles. Then, the PET particles are selected by quality and class, and taken to the yarn mill & compounded into plastic pellets. Finally, the plastic pellets are melted & converted into the recycled yarn, that we use to produce the earth fabric range. After use, the fabric can be recycled to repeat the process.
Our love for authentic, earthy interiors and our respect for craftsmanship and the environment drive our focus on sustainability, traditional assembly methods, and resource preservation.
