Satara's owners, Andrew & Colleen have a passion for working hard to enjoy the good things in life. This includes travelling within Australia and around the world with their family to experience amazing architecture, furniture, decor, people and cultures.
Having both worked in the corporate world for many years they now enjoy the freedom and creativity involved in building the Satara brand and designing and sourcing new pieces for Satara's expanding range of fantastic products. They take pleasure in helping Australian and New Zealand customers enjoy real indoor/outdoor living.
Twenty-two years ago, we found ourselves backpacking through Kruger National Park in South Africa. This was a time before our three children were born, before our business was formed and at a moment in our lives where travel and absorbing culture was at the forefront of our minds. We travelled to the third-largest rest-camp in the national park, Satara. The camp is reminiscent of colonial times, with thatched rondavels and cottages.
It’s an incredibly special place. As well as falling in love with the place and its abundance of wildlife, we were drawn to the name of the camp and made note of it, originally thinking it would be a beautiful name for a daughter. Moving forward several years, the business was born and while we had had children, the name Satara was still unused, sitting in the “will be of use later” part of our minds.
The word for us is synonymous with travel, worldliness and a sense of wanderlust, the same light in which we see our business. The name Satara was finally given a home. Satara, for us, is an excellent fit. It reflects our passion for adventure, our love of authentic, earthy interiors and our respect for craftsmanship.
We can’t imagine our company under any other name. Travel will always be a big part of our lives and we love nothing more than discovering and experiencing something new. Travel challenges us, inspires our business and keeps our minds open. The destination wish list constantly evolves, and with each new location visited, our eyes are opened to new aesthetics, materials and crafts which inform our growing product range.
We believe in sophistication and refinement expressed through quality and expertly-crafted pieces, yet always grounded in a down-to-earth approach. An authentic, uncomplicated design that welcomes sinking in, putting your feet up, and living with mindfulness. The importance placed on the day-to-day enjoyment of these pieces and the confidence in knowing quality and craftsmanship is at our core.
Satara challenges the traditional approach to luxury - we believe that comfort and enjoyment lie at the centre of luxurious design. We believe in pieces that create an honest space. Where luxury is found in the simple moments of feeling good and enjoying the space you’ve created.
A space to call your own, its functional and its personal. A way of life becomes a way of living as texture, colour and feelings merge. We believe that good design holds space for serendipitous moments. Morning light beaming into a bedroom, a natural spotlight showcasing an occasional chair that serves for moments of peaceful reading or the occasional wardrobe alternative. A gradient orange sky as the sun sets serves as a backdrop for an outdoor lounge set, as the towels get packed away and trays of cocktails come around. Our furniture pieces act as a catalyst for living moments fully.
